BIKING AND RAFTING IN MANU NATIONAL PARK 5d/4n

(in and out by bus)

Day 1: Cusco - Paucartambo - Accjanaco - Cloud Forest - San Pedro:

Departure from Cusco very early in the morning in one of our trucks especially prepared for this road. We will pass through interesting Inter-Andean valleys and picturesque farmer communities. In the middle of the day we are going to visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca, known as “chullpas”. After this we will arrive to Paucartambo city, which is a typical colonial town. It had a lot of importance and it still conserves its culture today.
Continuing  our trip we drive up until  the Abra of Accjanaco which is found at 3850 meters over the sea. From this point we start to go down by bike passing through the cloud forest, which is an area rich in endemic species such as the spectacular “Andean Bear” and  “The Cook of the Rock”  (The Peruvian National Bird), “Orquis”, “Bromelias” and “Ferns” etc. Then in San Pedro we will visit a lek of the “Andean Cook of the Rocks”, in which these birds every morning and afternoon mate during a very interesting dance called “Displays”.
After this impressive experience we will go to the lodge in San Pedro where our delicious dinner will be waiting.
Option: This night it is possible to have a night walk, where we have an opportunity to see many kinds of frog species and nocturnal insects.

DAY 2: San Pedro - Pilcopata - Ccoñec Canyon - Atalaya - Madre de Dios River - Mashkotania:

Before having our breakfast we will go back to visit the lek of the “Cook of the Rock” where we are going to have a new opportunity to see them making “Displays”. With more knowledge about these birds we can now return to the lodge, where we have a delicious breakfast. A few hours later we will continue going down by car to the town where we will start rafting in Pilcopata river (class II) passing through the Ccoñec Canyon, where we also have the opportunity to swim. In Atalaya our boat is going to wait to drive us to our lodge which is found one hour down river.  where we relax and get new water resources to be able to take a one hour walk through the forest.
With luck, during this walk we will have a possibility to see some Monkeys, Macaws, and Toucans. On the way back we will have a night walk. During this walk we can see spiders, lizards, frogs and tarantulas. After this impressive experience we go back to the lodge where our delicious dinner is waiting.

Day 3:Mashkotania - Teparo River:

We walk through the jungle to Teparo River, bringing all the equipment (tents and mattress, and food). On the way we will see many different kinds of animals and wildlife; such as the tapir, collared peccaries, monkeys, coati, Macaws, eagles, parrots, toucans, medicinal plants, flowers, and the giant trees of the jungle. On arrival we will swim in the river and do some fishing. After dark we will have a walk along the river where we can catch Caimans. This night we camp close to the river in tents, deep in the jungle.

DAY 4:Teparo River - Mashkotania:

This day we will walk through Teparo river looking for tapirs, Jaguars, macaws, there we are going to spend the day fishing with arrows made by our hands using only a machete, late in the afternoon we go back to the lodge to spend our last night.

DAY5: Mashkkotania - Macaw Clay lick - Back to Cusco:

We will get up early to visit a parrot clay lick where we can see three types of Macaws, parrots and Parakeets. After this we will return to Atalaya by boat where our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco by the cloud forest and Paucartambo.  We will arrive back in Cusco in the late afternoon.
