Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: FROM ANDEAN PEAKS TO THE MISTY CLOUD FOREST: Cusco to Pilcopata Lodge

  • Morning Departure from Cusco (3,300m): Your journey begins bright and early from Cusco. We'll traverse breathtaking Andean valleys, dotted with picturesque rural communities, offering glimpses into traditional Peruvian life.
  • Ancient History & Colonial Charm: Our first stop takes us back in time with a visit to the pre-Incan tombs of the Lupaca culture. Then, we'll arrive in the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, where we'll enjoy a hearty breakfast. Explore its beautiful historic streets and visit the fascinating local museum, brimming with regional history.
  • Descent into the Cloud Forest (1,700m): As we continue our descent, the landscape dramatically shifts into the lush cloud forest. We'll pause for a delicious lunch amidst this vibrant ecosystem. This area is a biodiversity hotspot, home to incredible endemic species.
  • Wildlife Encounters & Botanical Wonders: Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Spectacled Bear and the magnificent Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruvianus), Peru's national bird, known for its elaborate and captivating courtship ritual. The forest is also a treasure trove of orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and other unique flora.
  • Arrival in Pilcopata Lodge (690m): We'll continue our journey, absorbing the spectacular natural beauty, until we reach Pilcopata Lodge. Enjoy a hearty dinner and settle in for your first night surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

DAY 2: AMAZON IMMERSION & ADRENALINE: Pilcopata Lodge to Manu Lodge

  • Journey to the Amazon Manu Lodge: After breakfast at our lodge, we'll board our vehicle to Atalaya. Along the way, we'll have the option to visit a coca plantation or a delightful hummingbird garden, a truly magical experience for bird lovers.
  • River Journey & Lodge Welcome: In Atalaya, you'll be outfitted with rubber boots before we embark on a scenic 40-minute boat ride to the Manu Lodge. Upon arrival, take some time to relax, perhaps enjoy a refreshing dip in the river, before lunch.
  • Optional Zip-lining Adventure: For the thrill-seekers, the afternoon offers an exhilarating optional zip-lining experience! Soar through the jungle canopy, gaining a unique perspective of the rainforest from above. Our high-mountain, safety-certified equipment ensures a secure and unforgettable ride, culminating in a 20-meter rappel to the forest floor.
  • Machuwasi Lake Exploration: In the afternoon, we'll visit the tranquil Machuwasi Lake. Glide across the water on traditional rafts, observing diverse bird species, including the prehistoric-looking Hoatzin. With a bit of luck, we might also spot monkeys and capybaras along the banks.
  • Night Walk through the Rainforest: As dusk settles, we'll embark on an exciting night walk. The jungle transforms after dark, revealing a different world of nocturnal creatures. Our guides will help us search for fascinating insects, amphibians, and other elusive wildlife.
  • Dinner & Overnight: After our exhilarating night walk, enjoy a delicious dinner and a peaceful overnight stay at the lodge, lulled by the sounds of the rainforest.

DAY 3: PARROT CLAY LICK & RETURN TO CUSCO

  • Macaw Clay Lick Spectacle: Very early in the morning, we'll board our boat for a short ride to the renowned macaw clay lick. This vibrant riverbank wall is a gathering point for a spectacular array of parrots, including Blue-headed Parrots, White-eyed Parakeets, and Chestnut-fronted Macaws. Witness these colorful birds as they feed on the mineral-rich clay, essential for their digestion and detoxification.
